1. Purpose of the Service
Jersey City Residents Directory is a privately operated reference that describes and links to public records routes, indexes, and historical directory collections for Jersey City, New Jersey. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with any public office, court, archive, or records custodian.
2. Acceptable Use Rules
Use the service only for lawful purposes. You may not use the service or information found through it to:
- Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
- Locate a person protected by a restraining or protective order
- Commit identity theft, fraud, or another unlawful act
- Make an FCRA-regulated decision involving credit, employment, tenant screening, insurance, or another regulated purpose
- Scrape, copy, or republish the service's content at scale
- Interfere with the service's operation, security, or availability
3. No Consumer Reports
Jersey City Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither information on this service nor a result from a linked search tool is a consumer report. None may be used to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or any other purpose governed by the FCRA.
4. External Services
Government portals, archives, and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, have separate terms and policies. Jersey City Residents Directory does not control their content, availability, prices, results, or data practices.
5. No Warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that its information is complete, accurate, current, or suitable for a particular purpose, or that an outside portal will remain available or return correct results.
6. Liability Limits
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or other damages arising from use of this service or a linked resource, including decisions based on records found through them.
7. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from misuse of the service or violation of these terms.
8. Copyright and Content
The original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a brief attributed excerpt are permitted. Republishing full pages or systematically copying the content is not permitted.
9. Term Updates
The operators may post a revised version of these terms. Continued use after the revision is posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
10. Restricted Access
Access may be blocked or limited, without notice, for a user who violates these terms or abuses the service.
11. New Jersey Law
These terms are governed by New Jersey law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., as amended by P.L. 2024, c.16 effective September 3, 2024, controls access to records held by covered public agencies. It does not turn this private reference into a government custodian or override specialized privacy and access rules.
12. Severability
If a provision of these terms is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
